Overview

When the old gods died, so did the divine authority that its royal family used to keep the various internal factions in line. With its national armies already spread thin and weakened from the monsteruous attacks, and it's other resources at a breaking point when It was made clear in no uncertain terms that New Hope would be aiding refugees from the utterly decimated Runelands and Northern Kerris, the dual assaults on territory from the Hobgoblins and Orcs were too much, and the First Nation shattered into numerous factions that began to fight each other for territory and resources.

It was during one of those skirmishes, at Ghal Dhur against an incursion of orcs from Diecris' three peaks. the orcs had pushed their way inside the mountain stronghold and were sowing carnage and chaos. As the leader of the orc troupe struck down the ruler of the dwarven stronghold and his soldiers cheered, the earth shook, and the mere orc was ascended to Ironhide, God of slaughter and conquest.

Ironhide's ascension sent a clear message across the land, that the ranks of the divine were still open to those who could earn enough devotion, respect, or fear. This knowledge drove a fervor that turned skirmishes and disputes into wars and allies into rivals.

Although Ironhide's time as a god was short, as he was eaten and slain by Diecris is a fit of jealous rage, that ascension and fall was only the first god of many who would become members of the group known as The Conquest Lords, a pantheon of ever shifting members.

Over two hundred years later this drive and striving for divinity has kept the region fractured as the number of nations and amount of people in them continues to expand, pushing farther inside of Veris, and those who hold ambition ideas on how to obtain divinity grow alongside them.
